El Paso

We left for Texas on June 23rd with some planned stops at Bluff Fort and a couple of spots in New Mexico.

Our actual first stop was a rest area somewhere before Price.  It was the cutest rest stop ever and nice and clean.   We followed up this stop with a snack of my homemade digestive cookies.  Yes, they are a real thing and they are tasty.  I saw them on Great British Baking Show and actually tasted some at a conference.
And, because Jen had a National Parks Pass, we decided to stop at Arches.  That makes two National Park visits in June and both were on a Sunday.  Word of advice, don't go on a Sunday - too crowded!

Not even sure now where we saw Boyd Ave, but somewhere Boyd is famous.

Jen and I had many good laughs along the way.  Laughs from sheer exhaustion and too many hours in a car, but we made the best of it.  We got lost a couple of times, but nothing too serious or too many scary neighborhoods.

We did make it safely to Jess and Sid's place on post (not a base, but a post).

It is just so eerily quiet in her neighborhood.  You barely see any people or hear any noises.  It's really strange!
It also reminded me of the Homer Price story where they build a subdivision and the guy messes up the signs and nobody can find their own home.   Millie the dog knew how to find home, so I just trusted her to lead the way.

One morning I borrowed Jen's bike and rode to a parade ground (I think) to hear reveille.  It was simply a recorded audio and nobody seemed to care about it.  Hmmm!  Oh, well, it was a nice early morning bike ride on a too small bike.

This is inside one of the Mexican restaurants we tried while there. I was on a quest for the best guacamole, which turns out was in Grants, New Mexico of all places.

This huge star was lit up every night.

They live right by the El Paso airport and the planes sure do fly over close to the house tops.

Mille had surgery and wore this cone for the first half of our stay.  We were all happy when she was able to take it off!

I suppose if you live the military life and move a lot, you don't want to take your crap with you.  There were always things being left on the street for free.  I found this treasure, but Jess said no.

One of the many cool rock formations we saw traveling through reservation lands.  Our favorite road was so warped by the sun is was like a roller coaster ride, somewhere near our favorite town of Naschitti.

And just to make the long trip even more exciting, we had to go home by way of Neola (just outside of Roosevelt).  We went up what we think was called Indian Canyon around 10:00 PM. We had been in the car since 9:15 AM.  We were a bit loopy by this time.

We did make it home about 6:30 AM the next morning after crashing at Justin's house for a few hours.
