Sometime during the night of December 5th, my last original goat passed away. He had been not well for two days. He was almost 12 years old!
Sage was always my favorite. He was the last born and so friendly from day one. Sage is the baby on the right.
He would follow me everywhere. More so after Angus died almost a year ago. He practically became a dog.
He started joining us on our walks to put out the trash or down to the end of the farm.
I sure will miss my curious, malted milk ball loving friend!

Jasmine and Sage
Things are the same around here with these two. Jasmine catching birds and any thing else that doesn't get away soon enough.
Sage still joins us on our morning walks.
We still end up at the river almost every day.

Signs of Spring
The river gets quite high each spring. You can see on the left side of this image how it is creeping across the small road into the dog park.
And how high it is along the banks. It eventually got so high it covered the road, and Sage wisely decided to stay on the other side. Can you see him in the shot? He is almost camouflaged against the dirt.
I've been brushing winter hair off of anyone who holds still long enough for me to catch them. They all should appreciate my efforts more than they do!
Sage has decided to join us anytime we head out for a walk. He comes with us to the river and even made a complete loop around the road and up the west end of our farm.

Sage AKA Poindexter
Oh Sage, he looks so innocent here doing his job of eating the weeds.
He is so spoiled. I brought home the tops of some strawberries from our work luncheon.
He devoured them. He loves vegetables and fruit.
He also feels so dejected if you leave him behind on a walk to the corner. He will bellow like you can't believe until he catches up to the group.
And, he makes himself at home wherever he pleases. This makes my husband crazy, but we are the only family he has now. His caprine friends are all gone, so he has to resort to canines and humans for company.
He just makes me smile!

And the Goat Came Along
We've been doing our best to enjoy this inversion that has settled over us.
It has left everything cold, frozen, gray, and overall yucky!
We've been doing the same old, same old with the added addition of a goat trailing along.
Before the goats (as a herd) didn't ALWAYS follow me, but this guy as a lone goat certainly does.
We took a walk down to the tree at the bottom of the hill and he followed.
He bleated the whole way letting me know he wasn't happy with my chosen destination.
The dogs LOVE it! They dig and burrow and basically treat this pile of logs as if it were a jungle gym.

At some point, he turned around.
If you look closely in the photo below, you can see he chose to head back up the hill without us.The dogs LOVE it! They dig and burrow and basically treat this pile of logs as if it were a jungle gym.

Sage
Sage is doing okay.
I think he lost some weight after Angus passed. Probably lonely, even though I try to give him attention.
He seems to be eating better now. Boyd thinks I spoil him because I always take him a treat. Could be apples, pears, lettuce, carrots, etc. He loves them all!
He likes me to scratch his back.
