Memorial Day

Doesn't the headstone for my dad's and sister's grave look nice?  You would never know that months ago it was smashed into by someone joy riding through the cemetery.  The entire headstone was drug about 5 to 6 feet away and the car ended up high centered and abandoned resting on top.  It was covered with anti-freeze and oil and skid marks from the tires.  The bottom granite has chunks missing.  The driver was eventually caught, and after lying to police (including the kid's mother), when the court date finally rolled around he did admit his guilt.  He has to pay to replace it.  Time will tell if we ever get all the money back.
The pine cones on top are a tradition started by my aunt who lives on the east coast.  She told us to put a pine cone on top when we visit for her, since she lives so far away.

We also decorated graves for Boyd's family.  We do his parents, his brother, grandmother and then extended family - great grandparents, etc.  His family line makes him related to most of Brigham City.
The picture above was taken as Boyd discovered the flowers we left had been stolen.  This would be from the pioneer graves of his great grandparents.  We soon discovered that someone had taken a total of 7 small pots and one big pot.  You can see from the photo below, they aren't really worth much monetarily. I paid less than $10 for the big container and the cost of the smaller pot would be a couple of dollars and had maybe 4 petunias per pot.  Really!!!???  The flowers on graves connected to the Reeder side were all still there.  Just the flowers on graves connected to the Nelson side were stolen. They took the big pot off of his grandmother's grave and then the smaller ones off her parents, grandparents, etc.   There was a previous year when we had a couple of pots stolen from this same family line, but they were in fancier pots.  So, I started just putting the flowers in cheap pots from Walmart.   Even that didn't stop the thievery!!!     So truly annoying!
