Woody Woodpecker

He's moved in and made himself at home on our telephone pole.
It sounds like he is sending messages in Morse code.

Yep, Gross!

 Don't know.
Pretty sure I don't want to know.
 And, then we found this.
I think there must be a lot of strange things that go bump in the night.   I think I will stay tucked safe and sound in my bed.

On The Domestic Side

 Amidst the wildlife,
we saw a whole lot of the domesticated kind of animal life.
Domesticated enough to scratch their backs in the snow.

And a bunch of prairie maggots as some people rudely call them.

Doesn't it look like a train in the next picture?
Maybe, but it is a whole bunch of hay.
 Bulls

This paint had the coolest patterns.

Sluffin'

We sluff-ed stake conference on Sunday.  Truth is, we went to the Saturday night meeting and it is so nice because there are no children.  Well, there isn't supposed to be anyway, I could hear a couple of cries.  Sunday is filled with children and that is my cop out for not going.

We took a drive out west.
 The frozen Bear River

This house belonged to Lucinda Petersen Jensen (Boyd's great aunt).  She was a Utah State Legislator way back in the day, 1929-1930.  Maybe even more years, I don't know I just did a quick google search.
The house sits right across the Bear River from close to the cemetery in Bear River City.
 Saw this cute bunny.
At the same house on the bend in the road where you can often find wild turkeys.

Random Animal Sightings

Pretty sure I wouldn't have sighted this animal without Jasmine's help.
She finds all sorts of dead things and then carries them around looking for the perfect spot to dig a hole and hide her treasure.
This seems to be a muskrat.
It wasn't too long after this photo that she tried to lick my mom's hand.   Yeah, my mom screamed for me to get that dirty dog mouth away from her.

Guess what this is...
I spotted this guy from the kitchen window.  Sorry for the horrible photo, but what could I do?  I was lucky to get what I did.  He was eating in the hayfield in front of our house.
 And there he goes.
Another horrible photo, but I love pelicans.
There has been at least one and often two down at the river each evening when I take the dogs down for a swim.
 And more deer.

Jen spotted a snake when we were riding bikes this evening.  Maggie didn't even try to get it.  You know Jasmine would have had that thing in her mouth and been chasing Laura with it.  Too bad that didn't happen!!

Good Eaters

My mom has cows on her land.  They get to eat her weeds.
I wish we had cows on our farm.  We could, heaven knows we have the space and the feed.
We just have one big problem...   it's a phrase.   GOOD EATERS
One day last year, while I was petting this cow's predecessor, Boyd and I had a conversation that went something like this...
Me:  Let's get some cows like this.
Boyd: Okay, they make good eaters.
Me: Yeah, and we have plenty of weeds for them to eat.
Boyd: (Looking at me weird and then laughing.) That's not what I meant.
Me: (Finally getting his intentions.)  NO!!!!!

How could you eat these beauties after raising them?  They are so gentle.
See the cockle-burs on her head?
Now, you don't.  That's because she allowed me to walk right up and pull those burs off her head.  No hesitation, no fear, completely docile.
 I just love them!

Yep, one day I will have cows on my rescue farm.
