Hagen's Birth - Post #3

Even though Jess really wanted Hagen to be born earlier, it turned out to be a perfectly aligned medical team.  She got the doctor she wanted and we ended up with an awesome nurse.

We waited quite a while for Hagen to get into position to be born. Jess was starting to feel contractions.

Here she is talking to Emmy on FaceTime, but when the contraction would hit, she gave Sid the phone so Emmy wouldn't be worried.

Lots of different positions, lots of checks later things were really starting to get serious.
At one point, Jess knew something was strange and she called in her nurse.  The nurse looked, left and very quickly thereafter, a whole team of people entered.  I could tell that they were worried, but professional. One person grabbed a big red container and stood at the back of the room ready to head to OR. The other people all had a job to do and they did it well. It was only a matter of a minute or so, but it was intense.  They were afraid the baby might have a prolapsed cord, but once the doctor checked and determined things were fine, everyone took a huge sigh of relief and the climate of the room instantly went from urgent to relaxed.
Again, so glad for the team working with Jess.
At this point, baby was ready to come, but the doctor Jess wanted was busy delivering another baby.
The nurse told her if she could not push, she could get the doctor she wanted.
So through every contraction, she would say, "Don't push, don't push, don't push!"  It was so funny, but she was determined to wait.

She only said she was hungry once, and she didn't say anything about shaving her head. Ha ha!
She did still grab onto Sid's shirt like she did the last time.
It became apparent that she was more than ready to deliver so Sid called the nurse and it was game on.
Both Sid and I knew the baby had to basically be right there and a sneeze would have pushed him out.
The nurse came in and checked and said the doctor just finished up the last birth and would be right in.
It was hard to get a good shot angle since I had to be on the same side as Sid.
Jess only pushed TWICE!
Two contractions total!

Only two to four minutes of pushing...

And just like that...

Apple Blossoms

Kind of past their prime, but I was glad I made it out to photograph them.
