Harvest Time???

What a crazy, rainy, snowy, wet, cold, windy, series of months we have had.  Since September we have had too much moisture to harvest the corn.  It happened one other time in the last ten years, that time we were the only ones to have corn standing all winter.  Our yield was surprisingly decent considering that we fed the deer, raccoons, skunks and all kinds of birds all winter long.

This year, we aren't the only ones with corn still standing.  This is the west side and you can see that it is wind blown and starting to fall.
This field is directly west of the above field, so this is the east side and it is not so wind blown.
And, big ruts from a failed attempt at getting the combine in the field.

And, another neighbors field.  East side, stalks tipping over.

Lastly, a view of our field.  No tassels, no leaves, just ears and stalks still standing.  Here's hoping to warm, dry days so we can get in the field and get this harvested!

Swimming Deer

Jasmine thinks it is her duty to chase off any deer that dare cross her path.  I don't know why she is so obsessed, but she is.  For now, the field is so muddy she doesn't get far, not that she would ever be able to catch them.

These deer didn't stay long once she started barking at them from across the way.

That last deer peeled off and decided to swim across the river.

The other two ended up swimming across the dog park.

Shore Bird Serenade

One perk of having a flooded farm is that it has attracted a variety of birds.

What The Dogs Have Been Up To

The dogs have been enjoying the warmer weather. We've all been enjoying the warmer weather, even with the winds and the rain.

The roads around the farm are still a muddy mess, but all we need to do to properly exercise the dogs is invite Maggy over for a few hours.   Jess sent me this picture after I returned Maggy one day.
At the same time, this is what my dog was doing. He dug a shallow hole in the dirt and plopped down for a nap.
He is pretty good at sleeping sometimes.  He is even clever enough to use his toy for a pillow.
Of course, when he isn't sleeping, he is wherever Boyd happens to be.  His favorite place to be is on Boyd's head as a matter of fact.

Jasmin entertains herself by chasing birds, catching mice and she even managed to snag a squirrel.
I got a stationary bike and Laddie seems to think chewing my feet as they go round and round is all kinds of fun.

The dogs have enjoyed having the farm flooded.

Another Crazy Idea!

Once upon a time I created a rock bed for my herb garden.  Boyd helped me haul in rocks we found around the farm.  I even laid down weed barrier, but it didn't stop the grass from growing up through and making me insane.  It was so hard to weed with all the rocks, ha, ha!

I eventually moved the herb garden and tried to ignore the mess left behind, until this year.

This year, I decided to deal with the problem.  So, I moved ALL of the rocks.  Well, all of them except the big one in the foreground, that one is there for good.  The whole area was covered in rocks of all sizes from the fence on the left to the containers on the right.

Then, I salvaged some chicken wire and laid it out to contain my rocks.
I made it as large as the space would allow.
I wish these two knew how to help and not just get in the way.
 And dig holes everywhere.

 A nice view.

A sideways shot of the new garden and some recently transplanted herbs.

So far, I like it and I certainly hope I don't ever need to move all those rocks again!

Bear Lake Birthday Drive

Each year for his birthday, my husband like to take a loop through Idaho and around Bear Lake.
We start the journey with a breakfast of champions at a truck stop in Downey.

Here's to another 58 years!
Going across the pass - still so much snow yet to melt.

Bear Lake was windy and the water level was so high!

This water will eventually become our irrigation water.
 Water hitting the picnic tables.
And a sign warning of low water. ???
This part of the boat dock was just floating out in the lake.
Insane!  I wanted to yell for him to get back up on the road, but I knew that would just encourage him to get closer.  I couldn't believe there weren't signs warning to stay away.   He can't possibly be the only man to climb down for a better look.  I would have appreciated at least a simple warning against stupidity.

Yes, he did walk out on the dock in the wind with the waves crashing hard.  I think he was testing his chances of living another year.

It was a weird greenish, gray day.

Then he decided to go out again with the video camera.

And, a video of the crazy weather day on the lake.
