A June Wedding

I was given the chance to take some photos at a wedding last month.  I had a great time and am so glad that they let such an amateur tag-a-long.

A Mossy Mess

or a whole mess of moss!

The canal is full of moss, which makes the ditch full of moss, which makes the tubes full of moss, which ultimately stops the flow of water and makes my husband one tired, angry, frustrated farmer.

He has to check the tubes often, clean the ditch often and it lengthens the time between changes which in turn means more tube checking and more ditch cleaning and so on and so on and so on.
But, there are beautiful sunsets to notice while you are doing all that cleaning and checking.

Jasmin isn't any good at moss removal, but she is great at finding dead bodies.  I can't identify the species, but it I can promise you that it STINKS!
At least the view was gorgeous!

The 4th Dismal Land Style

I shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who knows us, that we here at the DLLALCCO, don't like crowds,  celebrations or anything of the sort.
So, for the 4th we kept it simple and solitary.
Our morning started at 3:42 as we headed out to check the water.  Isn't it nice of Boyd to let me join him?  Really!  Sometimes he doesn't want me hanging around, getting in his way.   The good news was that the water was down and we only had to shut it off.  That meant we were back home in just over an hour.  I fell asleep again around 5:00 am and woke up at 6:00 am looked at the ceiling, considered getting up to go to the flag raising ceremony and then chose to go back to sleep.  Too bad, because it was the only activity I actually wanted to attend.   I half considered going to my mom's for a BBQ, but didn't want to have to get ready and so, I stayed home.
We ended the night at the same place we started our day, the South Farm.  This is as close to the fireworks crowd as we want to get.  It is a perfect, private viewing location.
Hope you all enjoyed your day and that you were FREE to celebrate in your own way as I was.

Salt Creek

Jeff organized a service project out at Salt Creek.   The basic idea was to plant grass and reeds to provide habitat for the waterfowl.   So, they can have lots of babies to shoot in the fall.   Umm, yeah.
No really, it was a noble and needed event.  The people were so good to give up a Saturday morning and go help.  At least there are some responsible hunters in the world.  Thanks, Jeff for having the determination to organize these kinds of events.
I got to ride in this air boat.  It was loud, but fun.

They had to chop up the dirt clods and section off the plant material, load it on the boats and haul it out to islands.

The water was really shallow and many boats couldn't move out.
 A poor dead swan.
 Baby avocets.
An overall view of some of the islands they planted.
