"Let's see your other boyfriends do that!"
Boyd said those exact words to me one day when we were hauling straw a few years ago. It made me laugh so hard. Boyd really is strong and he can load a truck full of bales better than most. The only job he lets me do is drive. I sometimes get out and move some bales closer at the risk of being yelled at and told it is "man's" work. Boyd cut and baled some straw for the neighbors and ended up bringing home 65 bales. He did it all himself because he wouldn't wait for me to get home from work. The goats really appreciate it because they have a wind blocker and shaded wall now. Yes, it is leaning in on purpose.
New Look
The new roof, etc, is coming along. Things look good if you look up. If you look down, you see nails, shingles, and assorted other chunks of trash. Clean up after it is over will take forever.
I'll ask Boyd to get back on the roof and get some better shots for you soon.

Tag, You're It!
I finally entered a photo in the fair. Boyd came up with the title, which was required to enter. Anyway, wish me luck on getting a blue ribbon and a whoppin' $2 prize. It cost more to print the photo to an 8X10 and mount it. But, hey, who can put a price on fame?
Update: I began this post on Tuesday, but didn't post because of the photo space issues. Since then, I found out I earned a white ribbon for this photo. Ah, fame is fleeting!
Actually, after talking with a few other people who have entered photos, I should feel lucky that I got a ribbon at all. What shall I do with my $1 prize?
The photo is of Jasmine and Buddy. It might look vicious, but they often play like this after swimming in the river.
When Boyd's In Charge
Last Thursday was Back to School night for me, which meant I left the house before 8:00 am and got home after 9:00 pm. Boyd was in charge of the dogs and goats. They must have gone somewhere fun, because the dogs were covered in cockle burrs and other stickery things. These images of the day I found on OUR camera.

Vanished?
I have used up all my free photo space on blogger. I guess I only get 1000 photos and I am at the limit. Both my mother and my husband told me the blog was worthless without photos so I now need to buy more space. That is the reason things have been slow post-wise lately. That and the fact that I have started school, etc, etc, etc.

Let's Play a Game Answers
So either Jen was the only person to read that post or she is the only good sport. Either way, she is the only one who will be told the answers. And being the only contestant, she is the winner of the grand prize, a trip with me to the Epcot Center and Disney World. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Some terms and conditions may apply.
New Rules
We are going to need some new rules around this farm.
Rule #1: Always have a camera ready.
Rule #2: Always have a leash for each dog.
Rule #3: Don't assume that everything under the apricot tree is a squirrel.
This morning when I let the dogs out, Jasmine bypassed her usual routine of making me pet her furiously and was off sniffing the pasture with serious determination. That should have been my first clue. I fed and watered the goats and headed out for the paper like any other morning. By now, Jasmine was sniffing between the big bales of hay stacked in the yard, but she followed me down the lane. We always walk past the apricot tree to get down the road and my dogs have spent the summer chasing squirrels while I walk a ways and then they catch up to me. So, this morning when they took off at full speed, I thought, "Hmmm, I didn't hear the squirrel chirp". I thought that there was actually something in the trap (which I had checked earlier and saw was empty) or they had found a cat. Neither option would have been good, but it was something all together different. Turkeys!!! A LOT of them !!! Wings flapping, squawking, flying frantically into the tree from what had been a good breakfast, I bet. It was a sight! Jasmine chased a hen and some smaller chicks right towards me. It was 5 seconds of absolute chaos and then it was all calm. Birds in trees and dogs contained at my side. I called Boyd and calmly and clearly asked him to bring me the camera and two leashes. I can talk normal when a cat isn't being shredded by my dogs. I tried to get a good picture of the turkeys hanging out on various limbs of the tree, but they wouldn't have it and all flew off. As awkward as those birds might look, they are fast and agile!
Rule #4: Boyd, to avoid further embarrassing situations, should just get dressed before I go out to do my chores :)

Farmer on the Roof
Since the day I became part owner of the Dismal Land and Livestock Company, Boyd has said we need a new roof. We finally decided this was the summer to redo the shingles, it seemed like we were always picking up shingles from the lawn. Boyd took the photos and he did a great job. I would like to add that the only rain we have had in months happened the morning after they stripped the roof down to the plywood. Yeah, go figure! The wind has continued and was blowing the stripped shingles from the south side of the house under the carport and into the north hayfield. Can't wait until we bale that mess!

Let's Play a Game
I often say to Boyd, "Let's play a game". He usually doesn't like my idea of a game, but I am hoping you will play along. I found a bunch of pictures taken at various places I have traveled. We will start with ten and if enough of you play along, I will do it again. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE PLAY! Just leave your answers in the comment box. It will be fun! Some are at the same general location, so be as specific as you can. Good Luck!
